If you are preparing for dental school in Canada, you may have encountered hundreds of recommendations for DAT Bootcamp. There is just one problem: DAT Bootcamp is primarily designed for the American DAT. So can you actually use DAT Bootcamp for the Canadian DAT?
The short answer is yes. A substantial portion of Bootcamp overlaps with the Canadian DAT, particularly Biology, General Chemistry, Perceptual Ability, and Reading Comprehension. Bootcamp itself maintains a page telling Canadian students that these sections can be used for Canadian DAT preparation. But whether you can use it and whether it is the best choice for you are two separate questions.
What is actually on the Canadian DAT?
According to the Canadian Dental Association, the current English Canadian DAT contains a Survey of Natural Sciences with 40 Biology and 30 General Chemistry questions, a Perceptual Ability section with 90 questions, and Reading Comprehension with 50 questions. The Candidate Guide gives students 60 minutes for Natural Sciences, 60 minutes for PAT, and 60 minutes for RC. The CDA still discusses Manual Dexterity in some of its materials, but currently states that the Manual Dexterity Test is suspended and not being offered.
What does Bootcamp cover that Canadians do not need?
The biggest difference is that American DAT preparation includes subjects that are not part of the Canadian exam. Bootcamp's own Canadian DAT comparison notes that Canadians do not take Organic Chemistry or Quantitative Reasoning. So if you are using Bootcamp for the cDAT, you should not blindly follow an American DAT study schedule, or you will waste time studying sections you will not encounter.

Bootcamp by section for the cDAT
Biology. Yes. Bootcamp explicitly recommends its Biology material to Canadian students because of the overlap between the two exams. The key is to compare what you are studying against the official CDA Candidate Guide.
General Chemistry. Again, yes. General Chemistry exists on both exams and Bootcamp provides extensive chemistry lessons and question banks. Stay focused on the CDA's official specifications instead of assuming every American DAT emphasis deserves equal study time.
PAT. Bootcamp provides a complete PAT program. PAT is a section where additional practice generally has more value than reviewing theory. Once you know how each subsection works, improvement comes from repeated exposure while reducing the time required to solve problems.
Reading Comprehension. RC may be the easiest Bootcamp section to transfer, because the fundamental skill is the same: read unfamiliar material and answer questions accurately under time pressure. The Canadian RC section contains three scientific passages, 50 questions, and 60 minutes, and the CDA says previous knowledge of the science is not required. Bootcamp also has one of the larger publicly available collections of RC strategy content, teaching the Vanilla Method, Search and Destroy, and hybrid approaches. That is valuable because there is no reason every student should use the same strategy.
Is Bootcamp RC harder than the real DAT?
Be careful with this question. You will find anecdotes saying both things online. Some students say their actual RC performance was better than their practice scores, but individual DAT forms vary. So do not assume that harder practice guarantees a better real score. Instead, ask a more useful question: are you consistently finishing 50 questions within 60 minutes while maintaining strong accuracy?
Do you need to buy another course if you already have Bootcamp?
Probably not. If Bootcamp is working well for Biology, Chemistry, and PAT, changing platforms halfway through your study schedule may create more problems than it solves. Instead, identify your specific weakness. If Biology is weak, add Biology practice. If PAT is weak, do more PAT. If Reading Comprehension is weak, add RC. You do not necessarily need an entirely new DAT course.
